This 72-bed specialised paediatric hospital in Entebbe is part of an Africa-wide network of Centres of Excellence developed by the Italian NGO EMERGENCY Life Support for Civilian War Victims in cooperation with the Ugandan Government.
The hospital was designed by the Italian Architect Renzo Piano for whom this hospital is the first project in Africa, in partnership with TAMassociati. Key ingredients of the design are load-bearing rammed earth walls, partially two storeys high, and a 3,000m² photo-voltaic roof which produces a substantial part of the energy the hospital consumes.
Studio FH acted as Architect of Record and provided local planning, compliancy and project coordination consultancy throughout the design and construction period.
