This is the most recent phase of the ongoing Quality Hill redevelopment that started in 2016 with the reconstruction of Le Chateau Restaurant with associated coffeeshop and furniture showroom, and later also included the construction of the Le Gourmet Delicatessen in 2018. The current phase entailed the construction of a three-storey annex to the existing Petit Village hotel, extending it eastwards into a new plot acquired for the purpose.
The original hotel design was based on a ‘lodge in the city’ theme but, having seen the market develop over the years, the Client saw opportunities in a business hotel, providing high standards of service and finishes in more conventionally sized and arranged hotel rooms. Our challenge, architecturally, was to continue the language of the ‘wooden flat roofs’ employed at the restaurant, coffeeshop and delicatessen into something that would work on a multi-storey building. This led to the balconies facing the inner garden being clad in wood, and making use of similar steel grille details as the ones found in the restaurant. With construction of the hotel extension underway, we took the opportunity to revamp the reception and drop-off area as well, giving Petit Village a proper entrance at last, along with improved presence and visibility to the casual Quality Hill visitor.
